Beach vacations...

Spring break season is here and it is time for flip flops and a trip to the beach! Make sure to hit the local art gallery and find a new favorite artist to take home something unique.

A time for collecting more than shells!

Plein air Easton

Every year in July, artists come from around the country to take part in a painting competition called Plein Air Easton.  The juried artists take to the streets to paint outside for a week, and take in the beauty and charm of Easton, MD and the surrounding areas.

However, non-juried artists and photographers, of all ages, can join in the fun too.  On Saturday there is a Quick Draw competition for all the other artists who would like the chance to compete in this very popular painting event.

If you would like to have a painting adventure, check out their website at

The nearby towns and marinas are also wonderful places to find some creative inspirations.

Dueling Brushes

There is nothing quite like sitting outside and painting.  However, sitting outside and painting in Annapolis next to the waterfront is always an adventure.  I like to paint boats and water, water and boats.  But it is also fun to people watch, duckling watch, and seagull watch (and maybe sip a bloody Mary).

Every June, Maryland Hall and volunteers put on a wonderful event called Paint Annapolis.  Juried artists come to paint for a week.  But non-juried artists can come on Saturday for a special competition called Dueling Brushes.  I know painting for 2 1/2 hours may seem like a long time, but it is over in a flash of sunlight!

Be sure to find out all the particulars for this exciting event at

Easels in Frederick

Every summer, I like to go plein air painting here and there.  Some of my favorite places to go are next to the water (beach, marina, canal, etc).  Here is a painting next to the canal in Frederick, MD.  In June, artists will come out to paint all over the town.  A painting competition is fun to watch but also fun to be part of!

The Delaplaine Arts Center has a wonderful group of volunteers who run this plein air paint out where juried artists and non-juried artists can compete for prizes, and just have fun painting and sharing their work with the public.  Of course, there will be an exhibit of paintings after all the fun is over.  Be sure to check out what all the fun is about:

Enjoy the View!

Top of the Mountain, 9 x 12"
Everyday I join the rest of the country in a rat race chasing after that next paycheck.  However, I get to drive over the top of the mountains and through the valley to get to my job.  This painting was inspired by my morning commute over the mountains.  And really, I would rather stay and paint every morning...who wouldn't??

The mountains I drive through run near the Appalachian Trail, complete with waterfalls and rocky cliffs and panoramic views.

Do you drive through some scenic byways on your daily journeys?

Bottle Collections

Bottled Up, 9 x 12"

Every person has creative energy inside them, bottled up, just waiting to come out.  By focusing on what we are passionate about, we lead happier, and healthier lives.  I am passionate about creating paintings with vibrant and bold color choices.

This is a still life based on a bottle collection in an artist friend's studio that ended up in one of my painting ideas.  Everyone has a little bit of a hoarder in them...what do you like to collect?  Do you have a collection of something that could be your inspiration for a painting?  I would love to see some photos of what you collect!  Who knows, it may even be an inspiration in one of my next paintings!
